Community engagement
I was honored to have recently been elected to the Global Young Academy and will begin my five year term in June 2023. I am excited to join this team of scientists in their efforts to amplify the voices of young scientists across the globe.

I recently held the family seminar to try to engage the Greifswald community into One Health Research. A journey into how wildlife disease science happens and how I became involved in the the topic; fun for the entire family! Press coverage in German: Nordkurier and the Ostsee Zeitung
Completing a childhood dream, I did an interview with Bob McDonald for Quirks and Quarks about the work our lab did trying to find the wildlife origins of the current Ebola epidemic: Take a listen! |
A while back I put together the IDPAS Guide to Grants: an information resource for young scientists for getting started with grant writing. If you have any old grants that you would be willing to contribute, please send them over! |
I really enjoy presenting my work and discussing the scientific process in general with students of all ages and backgrounds: if you are interested in having me come and give a talk at your school, get in touch!
Kibale Health and Conservation Project
- A medical clinic and community project within Kibale National Park that promotes reliable
health care that is close at hand for the communities surrounding the
park and will hopefully help improve park-people relationships. Donations are greatly appreciated. Colin Chapman recently received a Grand Challenges Grant
and is in the process of putting together a mobile health clinic to
service the communities living around Kibale National Park!

Back in 2012 I was a volunteer organizer and presenter for the McGill University National Geographic Young Explorers Grants Workshop to introduce National Geographic Young Explorer grantees, as well as National Geographic explorers, conservationists, and researchers, to students interested in pursuing grants from National Geographic to support their research or project: this is a great resource for those first projects!
